i'm nervous.

what i'm nervous about is tomorrow.

the election.

as most of you surely know, a lot is riding on this election tomorrow.

a lot more than picking which candidate will have to shoulder the burden of trying to figure out how to get us out of the mess that certain current presidents got us into in iraq and afghanistan.

one example of something important that is totally riding on tomorrow's election, but something that most people have never contemplated, is the fact that whoever wins the election is likely to appoint at at least 3, and probably 4, supreme court justices.

not a lot of people realize this, and of the people who do realize it, many do not fully appreciate the impact that this will have on their lives. it's highly probable that justices rehnquist, o'connor, ginsberg, and stevens will not last another 4 year term. as far as ideologies go, this means that the next president will replace one of the most conservative members of the court (chief justice william rehnquist); two of the most liberal (justices ruth bader ginsberg & john paul stevens); and the one very powerful swing voter (justice sandra day o'connor).

in other words, the next president will be in a position to essentially tip the philosophical and political scales of the highest court in the nation in his favor. he will have more power than any president has had for a long time to shape the court as he pleases. his decisions in this regard will arguably go further to impact the daily lives of average people in this country than any health care plan he might propose, or any tax cuts he might formulate, or any decisions he makes with respect to the so-called war on terror.

it could turn out very well, or it could turn out very badly.

i have a strong opinion on which outcome i think would be good for the american people and which outcome could be so damaging that it scares the shit out of me.

so if you're fixin' to vote for john f. kerry, make sure you get to the polls tomorrow.

if you don't, puff daddy will find you, and, apparently, puff daddy will kill you.
